Some amazing facts about writing in a notebook is that it can help you be more productive, organized, and relieve your stress when you need it.
It feels so amazing opening a blank notebook, but after a couple of minutes, it becomes frustrating because you’re lost in too many thoughts and ideas of yours.
If you cannot decide on what you should write in your blank notebook here are 38 ideas that will get you started.
1. Journaling
Journaling is a great way to reflect on your life and it’s by far one of the most popular things people do in their notebooks.
Writing down what you’ve experienced throughout the day or week can be an amazing way to relieve stress and keep a little memory for the rest of your life.
It takes only a couple of minutes and reading it after let’s say a year is a lot of fun!

This will help you organize your realistic goals and create a positive approach to your life. I also write down resolutions for each year.
There’s also a Goal Getter printable for you to organize your goals and steps towards achieving them.
3. To-Do List
If you have many things to do throughout the day and you cannot keep track of them all, you can create a checklist in your blank notebook.

It’s a great way to be punctual, organized, and productive.
4. New Languages
If you’re planning on learning a new language, you can use your notebook to write down grammar rules, vocabulary, errors that you make so you can correct them, and so on.

6. Ideas
Have you ever got an idea or a question crossing your mind and you think “ok, I need to write it down“? But in an hour when you’re ready to write it down or look it up, you forget what it was?
This happens to me all the time. That’s why I like writing down my ideas right away because I know that later, I’ll forget about them.
Another case is when you have a job that requires you to always be creative. You can never predict what will inspire you and if you don’t have a notebook to write it down you can miss out on a unique idea.
In my case, I can be exercising and get an amazing blog post idea popping up in my head. Or when I’m falling asleep I get a nice design idea I want to implement in my blog.
The point is to always have a notebook to jot down your ideas for later use.
7. Your expenses + Budget plan + Savings goals
It’s not the first time I’ve said that tracking your expenses is crucial when you want to save. Why? Simply because for you to save more you need to know where your money’s going in the first place.
So, it’s another great idea for you to write in your blank notebook. Track your expenses one by one. Then, analyze.
After you know what you spend your money on, you create a realistic budget and see what you should cut back on.
For me, it was buying too much coffee, even though I’m a tea person! It became more like a habit to grab a coffee every single day on my way to the uni.
Usually, with coffee, I used to buy some baking goodies from my favorite bakery. They were so delicious, I start drooling right now. Okay, let’s not talk about it…
Back to the topic, writing down your budget can help you manage and visualize it, especially if you’re not a fan of spreadsheets.
You can also keep track of your savings goals, credit card debt, student loans, and so on.

If you enjoy reading as much as I do you can create lists of the books that you’ve already read and the ones you want to read.
You can even write a summary of the book that you’ve read to remember the story and narrate it to your friends and family.
I also like to write down some kind of a “lesson” or insight I got from the book.
9. Poems
If you enjoy writing poetry or want to start, you can dedicate a notebook to writing creative prompts and work on them one at a time. It’s a great way to get started.

Keep track of your answered prayers and you will be amazed.
14. Meal planning
Why planning your meal is important?
Well, for me there are several reasons why I love it:
1. It saves so much time.
You reduce grocery store trips; you know what needs to be prepped; it reduces wandering at the grocery store; you don’t stress about what to cook.
2. It’s great for health.
You’re eating the right amount; you have more control over your choices (let’s say if you know that you’re having a dinner out, you prepare a lighter breakfast and lunch).
3. Money.
You save money because you cook at home more and eat out less. Planning your meals can help reduce food waste.

Have you ever had this feeling of how weird your dream was, but you don’t remember what exactly it was about?
Or have you ever had the same dream multiple times and wondered what it meant?
If so, having a dream diary is a great way to keep track of your dreams.
Put one of your blank notebooks and a pen by your bed so you can write down your dream before you forget what it was about. You can even doddle the scenes or objects you saw in it.
16. Trip planning
Trip planning is one of my favorites. Before going on a trip we all research the places we want to visit, the food we want to try, the hotels we’re going to stay at, and so on.
I always write all the information down in my notebook. For some reason, I prefer doing that rather than using my laptop notes. It gives me some sense of … I don’t even know, it’s just more me. Writing things down.
So, you can use your notebook to plan out your trips:
- Country/city
- Where to stay at
- Transportation
- Attractions
- Food
- Day-by-day schedule
- Souvenirs to buy
Write it all down and it will motivate and inspire you even more.

Write down supplies you’re running out of so it doesn’t take you a while to remember what it is you need to buy once you’re in a grocery store.
18. Sketchbook
I love drawing and the great thing about it is that no matter how experienced you are, you lose track of the time when you do it.
It’s a great way to record your emotions and relieve stress.
Try to draw one thing on each page, that will prevent crunching all of your doddles on one page looking too busy.
I enjoy drawing portraits and painting landscapes.
Just let your pencil flow freely and transfer your quirky imagination to the paper, it’s amazing.
19. New words
When you learn a new word, write it down, and make a couple of sentences to practice and improve your vocabulary.
20. Affirmations
When you feel down having a book full of positive affirmations is a great way to help you change your attitude and thoughts to be more optimistic.
What are the affirmations in the first place?
They are phrases or mantras that you repeat to yourself that describe a specific outcome or who you want to be.
Examples of positive affirmations:
- I am loved.
- The tools I need to succeed are in my possession.
- I am calm.
- I am vibrant.
- Other people will not take advantage of me.
- I have faith in my social skills.
- I have confidence in my skills.
- Happiness is within my grasp.
- I am talented.
- I am not afraid to be wrong.
21. Passwords
It’s hard to not use the same password on more than one website right?
If you’re like me, having lots of different accounts on everything, having a password book is not a bad idea.
However, make sure that your password book is in a safe place where other people won’t find it.

I’ve always been wanting to have a lot of plants.

If you’re a procrastinator or simply want to be more mindful of your time, tracking it is a great idea.

27. Health log
A health log can be very helpful for people who have any type of medical condition. I think it’s great to track the symptoms that you have, triggers, medications that you’re taking, and any kind of information that is relevant to your condition.
It can help you see the big picture of your situation, see what you can improve, and handle it better overall.
Another super helpful thing about it is that you can discuss your health log with your doctor.
Especially if you’re like me, always forgetting things and when it’s time to share with your care provider, you forget all the details.
28. Places to visit in your city
If there are places where you haven’t been yet in your city, which probably there are, you can write them down and make a plan to visit them.

All you need to do is to write down certain habits that you want to track, then mark whether you did that habit or not each day.
In a month you take a look at your records and you can see your habitual routines. Now you can tackle any habit and make changes.
Another way is to write down a habit you’d like to implement in your life and mark it every day as you do it. It helps you track your progress and it’s a great way to implement positive habits in your life.
It can be anything, drinking more water, exercising or at least stretching every day, watching less TV, reading a book, etc.
31. Blogging journal
If you have a blog like mine, you know how many things out there that you need to do. And without creating a journal where you can keep up with every single thing such as blog post ideas, social media promotion, plugins to add and so much more, you can go crazy!
